Celebrating the life of
Clarabelle Bradshaw Lane
August 19, 1915 - May 10, 2007
in the Naval Stores Reporting Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Her great love of travel and sense of adventure led her to plan a year-long trip to Europe with her two daughters in 1959-60. They lived in Lausasanne, Switzerland and made forays throughout the continent. Later in life she made long trips to Egypt and Greece, and traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Bee had a great love of nature--being particularly interested in wild flowers and birds--and having taught herself botany, became one of the best amateur botanists in the area. She was also interested in her family history and was deeply engaged in genealogical research and writing.
In 1969 she married again to Preston White Lane, Refuge Manager of the Savannah Coastal Refuge, and went to live with him on the Savannah Wildlife Refuge, a tenure she delighted in, being surrounded by the vibrant marshland. They later retired to Bluffton, South Carolina, where she became active in the Church of the Cross, the Bluffton Historical Society, the Garden Club, and the Bluffton Book Club.
Full of fun, interested in people and in many things, glad to be alive, she brought joy and a unique slant on life to her many friends and family.
She is survived by one daughter, Ann Close of New York City; a son-in-law, Philip Wrangle of Cashiers, North Carolina; a stepson, David Paul Lane of Atlanta; a step-daughter, Nancy Lane Drake of Gilbert, South Carolina; two grandsons, Philip Anderson Wrangle of Houston Texas; and John McElmurray Wrangle of Atlanta; Georgia; two grandnephews, Arthur Robinson Clark and Douglas Clark and one grandniece, Mimi Clark, all of Sarasota, Florida.
A service will be held at The Church of the Cross, in Bluffton, South Carolina on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at 11 am.
A graveside service will be held a Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Ogeechee Audubon Society, P.O. Box 13424, Savannah, GA 31416.
